A rich industrial past

The Swiss watch industry has a long history of producing high quality timepieces, and the production of precious and semi-precious stones is an important pillar of this industry. Since the 18th century, Switzerland has been renowned for its precision cutting of precious and semi-precious stones, and this expertise is an integral part of the Swiss watch industry.

However, few know that Lucens was a hot spot for this industry. It all began in 1862, when Louis-Edouard Junod inaugurated the first factory in the village specializing on watch stones. This adventure was not only at the origin of the economic development of Lucens, but also the first step towards a whole series of companies specialising in this trade.

The gemstone factory created by Jules Reymond-Schneider was one of the jewels of the Vaud watchmaking industry. At the height of its development, the factory employed up to 200 people. For almost 70 years, specialists who took pride in their craft cut, polished and set rubies, sapphires, emeralds and diamonds, to name only the most important stones. While the initial vocation of the business was fine stones, the factory gradually reoriented itself towards the machine industry and very high-end watchmaking. Alas, the watchmaking crisis and the loss of a major customer sounded the death knell for the company in 2009.

We are currently converting this factory into 3 vintage appartments and 8 lofts - allowing you to acquire not only a quality home, but also a piece of Swiss watchmaking history.

A past that is always present

Imagine clocking in to work in this very factory in 1950. The sounds of machinery, the hum of conversations, the clatter of tools - these sounds have echoed through these halls for decades. And the scratches on the floor, the wear and tear on the railings, the period details tell the story of generations who put their heart and soul into their work.

As you walk to your post, you can't help but feel a sense of pride that you are part of something bigger. A legacy of hard work and determination that has stood the test of time. And now, as you walk through these halls, transformed into breathtaking lofts, you relive those memories and bask in the warmth of a bygone era.
